Locals booking flights at CHS in record numbers

Enplanements continued to climb in May at Charleston International Airport, breaking all previous records.
Enplanements – the number of people boarding a flight at CHS – reached 193,095 in May. That’s a 58 percent increase in the last five years. Deplanements – people arriving in Charleston – reached 189,924 people, a 55 percent increase in five years.
“First and foremost the airport is here to serve our community by providing great nonstop destinations and outstanding passenger service,” said Paul G. Campbell Jr., executive director and CEO of the Charleston County Aviation Authority. “We are pleased to see Lowcountry residents continue to support the airport and the local
economy by booking their business and leisure travel with our airlines.”
Charleston International Airport pumps more than $1 billion dollars into the region’s economy through the jobs at its terminal and those jobs created as a result of air travelers.
From January to May, 1.6 million people have flown in and out of Charleston International in 2017 via its six airlines: Delta, American, Southwest, JetBlue, United and Alaska.
