September 1, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – The National Institute of Senior Centers (NISC), a part of the National Council on Aging (NCOA), has awarded the Lourie Center the prestigious designation as a Center of Excellence.  Accreditation from the NISC is the official recognition that a senior center is meeting its mission in a nationally accepted professional fashion, in compliance with the nine standards of senior center operations.  Accreditation is the official mark of excellence.

This award recognizes outstanding achievement by the Lourie Center in nine areas including programs, governance, finance, and community involvement.  The Lourie Center is only the second senior center in South Carolina to receive this distinction.  “We are extremely proud to have the Lourie Center identified as a Center of Excellence.  I am sure that Senator Isadore E. Lourie would also have been pleased that the Lourie Center is part of his legacy as a champion of the seniors of South Carolina,” stated Mary Kessler, Executive Director of the Lourie Center.
