Lowcountry Red Cross volunteer assisting with disaster relief in Houston

May 19, 2016

Texas has been having a tough year with disaster after disaster impacting the Lone Star State, and American Red Cross workers, including several from South Carolina, have been helping affected residents. Stephanie DeLorenzo, an American Red Cross volunteer from the Lowcountry, is traveling to Texas to assist with the continuing disaster relief operation.

Since the torrential rains and severe flooding that began in Texas in April, Red Cross disaster teams have worked tirelessly to serve meals and distribute relief supplies and comfort to help those in great need. Red Cross caseworkers are helping people plan their next steps and connect to available resources to support their recovery. DeLorenzo experienced the devastating floods in South Carolina last fall while working for several weeks on the Red Cross disaster relief operation in her hometown and is now traveling to lend her expertise to the Red Cross response in Houston.

“After experiencing the flooding that devastated the Lowcountry last fall, I know how it is for families trying to recover in the aftermath of floods,” said DeLorenzo. “I want to be able to support the Red Cross in helping Texans begin to put their lives back together.”
