Magnolia will celebrate July 4 with free garden admission for America’s heroes

CHARLESTON, SC – Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, America’s oldest public garden, will observe the nation’s birthday by honoring America’s heroes with complimentary admission for those who protect and serve our community.   

On designated days between Wednesday, July 4, and Saturday, July 7, firefighters, police officers, nurses, doctors and active duty military personnel will be admitted free. This offer also includes their immediate family members.

The schedule for complimentary garden admission is:

  • Wednesday, firefighters
  • Thursday, law enforcement officers
  • Friday, emergency medical technicians, physicians and nurses
  • Saturday, active duty military

Between 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 4, the members of the Lowcountry A’s Model A Club will parade about a dozen antique cars along the avenue in front of the main house. Each car will be decorated with an American flag.    

A day-long program on Saturday, July 7, will include a storyteller and presentations to highlight how Magnolia, established in 1676, has grown as the nation has matured.    

Tom Johnson, Magnolia’s executive director, said, Magnolia has witnessed American history from the nation’s birth through wars, the Civil Rights Movement, the Cold War, up until today.”
