Making a Difference One Diaper at a Time: The Ongoing Mission of the Diaper Drive Thru

October 9, 2023

Last month’s Diaper Drive Thru faced challenging weather conditions, but the determination to help families in need prevailed. The pressing need for diapers and wipes among struggling families is a reality, urging the community to come together once again for this month’s event. The Diaper Drive Thru is an initiative that not only provides essential supplies but also fosters a sense of community support among those facing challenging circumstances.

Monthly Diaper Drive Thru for Families in Need

The Diaper Drive Thru is a recurring event, held monthly and rotating between Clinton and Laurens. The goal is to reach as many families in need and help with much needed baby items of diapers and wipes. This month’s Diaper Drive Thru is set for Tuesday, October 10th and will be hosted at the parking lot of Wattsville Drug at 24 Sirrine Street in Laurens from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. This central location ensures easy access for families from various neighborhoods.

Appealing for Donations

Meeting the growing demand necessitates an increase in diaper donations. Individuals who wish to contribute can help by purchasing a pack of diapers (larger sizes and pull ups are most requested) during their next shopping trip and dropping them off at designated locations. These locations include Sadler Hughes Apothecary in Clinton, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices C. Dan Joyner Realtors in Clinton, and Courthouse Coffee in Laurens.

Participant Requirements

To ensure assistance is provided to those truly in need, parents or guardians seeking assistance at the Diaper Drive Thru must present appropriate identification to verify their circumstances. Verification documents may include a copy of the parent or guardian’s photo ID, along with supporting documentation proving custody or birth. Eligible forms of verification include birth certificates, WIC or Medicaid cards for the child, foster care or custody paperwork, and daycare or school IDs. Each family is eligible to receive one pack of diapers and wipes per child, with a maximum of two children per household. Identification is only required the first time.

Collaboration with Carolina Pregnancy Center

In addition to the provision of diapers and wipes, the Diaper Drive Thru partners with Carolina Pregnancy Center (CPC) from Spartanburg. CPC’s mobile unit will be present at the event, offering free pregnancy testing and ultrasounds as needed. This collaboration significantly enhances the event’s impact, providing comprehensive support to families facing challenges.

The Diaper Drive Thru initiative showcases the power of community and the impact that can be achieved when individuals come together for a common cause. By providing diapers and wipes to those in need and fostering a sense of community support, this initiative aims to create a brighter, more nurturing environment for families facing adversity.
