Mary Black Foundations Announces New Staff

SPARTANBURG, SC – The Mary Black Foundation is pleased to announce the addition of a new staff member.

Natalia Valenzuela Swanson has been named the Program Specialist in Healthy Eating | Active Living. Natalia has a B.A. in Political Science from Columbia College and a Masters in City and Regional Planning from Clemson University. Prior to joining the Mary Black Foundation, Natalia was the Associate Director of the Upstate Workforce Investment Board. In that role, she oversaw budgeting and the management of community grants. She has provided technical assistance, capacity building, and other supports to partner organizations. Natalia serves on the board of the Spartanburg Interfaith Hospitality Network and volunteers with the United Way of the Piedmont. She has completed the United Way Non-Profit Fellowes Program, Grantsmanship Center Training, Leadership Spartanburg County, Leadership Cherokee County, and Leadership Union County. Natalia received the Dale Carnegie Course Highest Award for Achievement in 2005.

In her role at the Foundation, Natalia will be responsible for implementing the Foundation’s Healthy Eating | Active Living grantmaking, providing technical assistance to applicants and grantees, evaluating impact, and developing relationships with local nonprofit organizations, community leaders, and other funders. Natalia will join the Foundation on March 25, 2015.
