Meetings on Dirt Road Paving Set for Northwest, Southeast Richland County

January 29, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – Residents in the Northwest and Southeast areas of Richland County will have the opportunity to learn more about the program to pave dirt roads during community meetings planned in Eastover and Irmo.

Meetings for the Dirt Road Paving Program will be:

  • 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2 at the Crossroads Community Center, 2750 McCords Ferry Road in Eastover
  • 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5 at the Ballentine Community Center, 1009 Bickley Road in Irmo

The Dirt Road Paving Program is funded through the Richland County penny sales tax.

“The Penny program is a step forward in improving Richland County road conditions and ease of access to properties for County residents,” said Richland County Councilman Bill Malinowski, District 1. “The Penny’s Dirt Road Paving Program is further proof that the penny is at work for Richland County property owners.”

The meetings are open to the general public, but residents and property owners in Northwest and Southeast Richland County are encouraged to attend the one in their community to get details on projects planned specifically for those areas.

Each meeting will include a question-and-answer session with Richland County staff and the Dirt Road Paving Management Team, which will be led by the Dennis Corporation, a Richland County based engineering and construction management firm.

“The implementation of the Penny program has taken an extensive amount of planning to ensure that all citizens of Richland County benefit to the greatest extent possible and the start of the Dirt Road Paving Program is one of the ways that these plans are now being put into action,” said Councilman Kelvin Washington, District 10.
