Midlands Technical College Foundation receives $40,000 grant from Wells Fargo

September 9, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – The Midlands Technical College (MTC) Foundation announced today a $40,000 grant from Wells Fargo. The funds will provide tuition assistance for unemployed or underemployed Midlands residents to pursue QuickJobs training with Midlands Technical College.

“Wells Fargo is helping our students improve their lives through the educational opportunities the college provides,” said Jack Hoekstra, MTC Interim Associate Vice President of Advancement. “We are grateful for Wells Fargo’s generous support in helping the college create meaningful employment opportunities for our community.”

MTC’s QuickJobs program was created in response to the growing challenge of filling today’s available jobs with skilled workers. As the changing workplace continues to impact the skills needed for high-growth, high-demand jobs, QuickJobs assists workers with retooling their skills for the new economy. Programs have been developed for the areas of greatest need such as industrial trades and manufacturing, information technology, and healthcare.

“Wells Fargo fully believes that supporting education is one of the most important investments we can make in our country’s future,” said Holt Chetwood, Wells Fargo Midlands market president. “We are honored to work together with educational organizations like Midlands Technical College to help create a competitive workforce and a sustainable economy for generations to come.”

QuickJobs programs are designed to offer skills training that results in industry-recognized credentials, quickly meeting the needs of students and providing the knowledge to move into employment. Currently there are over 40 training programs. Most programs take just a few months to complete, and some can be finished in a matter of weeks.
