Midlands Technical College names 2016-2017 top Adjunct Faculty

January 12, 2017

Midlands Technical College (MTC) kicked off its spring semester by honoring its Adjunct Faculty of the Year for 2016-2017. Adjunct faculty are hired by colleges on a contractual, part-time basis as opposed to the traditional model of full-time employment. MTC’s adjunct instructors, some with more than 30 years of teaching excellence at the college, represent a diverse group of teaching professionals with real-world, professional experience in their academic areas.

“Without our adjunct faculty, we could not do what we do,” said MTC President Dr. Ronald L. Rhames. “We hire adjunct faculty who very often are working professionals in their field, and the expertise and depth of experience they bring to the classroom in their discipline is invaluable.”

The Adjunct Faculty of the Year program recognizes and honors adjunct faculty members who have made outstanding contributions to teaching and learning at MTC. Each department chair, working with full-time faculty, selects the award winner.

The 2016-2017 Adjunct Faculty of the Year are:

  • Johna Buchanan, Business and Public Service
  • Geneva Cormany, Developmental Studies
  • David Heugel, Engineering
  • Sherry Beasley, English
  • India Gregory, Health Sciences
  • Lindsay Weathers, Humanities
  • Phillip Jackson, Industrial Technologies
  • Rachel Harjes, Information Systems Technology
  • Sara Rabieh, Mathematics
  • Constance Hopkins, Nursing
  • Shannon Jones, Science
  • Dan Ruff, Social and Behavioral Sciences

MTC’s experienced, dedicated faculty are the foundation to the college’s commitment to academic excellence. MTC instructors regularly earn state, regional, and national awards for their superior teaching. There are currently more than a dozen job openings for adjuncts in a diverse range of curricula.
