June 10, 2014

COLUMBIA, SC – June 11-12 – The school year is over, but educators from across the Southeast are getting ready to head back into the classroom. Nearly 700 teachers and administrators are attending the annual South Carolina Midlands Summit being held June 11-12 at Blythewood High School located at 10901 Wilson Boulevard, Blythewood, 29016. Attendees are coming from North and South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and Virginia.

Over 130 unique sessions will be offered focusing on the use of Google for education, research tools, Web 2.0 tools and technology integration in the classroom. The keynote speaker is Steve Dembo, a pioneer in the field of educational social networking. Dembo has been instrumental in the explosive growth of the Discovery Educator Network and its online presence. His keynote address is titled, “Building Bolder Schools: It Doesn’t Hurt to be First.”

Chief Technology Officer Tom Cranmer says the Richland Two technology team is really excited about this year’s summit and the richness of the professional learning opportunities the conference offers.

“It’s all about teachers learning more and more about weaving technology into student learning,” said Cranmer. “And without question, the growing popularity of this event is clear evidence that teachers really have an appetite for advancing student learning experiences through technology.”

Cranmer sees the Midlands Summit as a “jumping-off point” for reaching higher levels. The Summit is an extension of Richland Two’s 1TWO1 computing initiative. For a full list of sessions and schedule please visit http://scmidlandssummit.blogspot.com/.
