COLUMBIA, SC – COL Thomas Stowe Mullikin – pres. of the Camden-based Mullikin Law firm, a professional adventurer (expedition leader), and deputy commander of the S.C. State Guard – was named “special deputy” with the Richland County Sheriff’s Dept. (RCSD), Mar. 5.

Mullikin – a Professional  Association  of  Diving  Instructors (PADI) registered rescue diver and master diver with recorded dives in all of the Earth’s oceans (including certification as a polar diver for his ice dives in the Arctic and Antarctic Oceans) – will serve as a member of the RCSD Underwater Recovery (dive) Unit. He was administered the oath of “special deputy” by Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott, who also holds the rank of colonel in the State Guard.

“This is a huge personal honor for me, and another great opportunity to serve shoulder-to-shoulder with Sheriff Lott,” says Mullikin. “I’m also honored to be serving with the men and women of the RCSD, many of whom serve in the State Guard’s provost marshal’s [military police] detachment.”

In addition to his diving expertise, Mullikin is an accomplished mountain climber, having already achieved the summits of Mt. Elbrus in Russia – at 18,510 feet the highest mountain in Europe –  and Mt. Kilimanjaro – at 19,341 feet, the highest mountain in Africa. He next plans to tackle Argentina’s famed Aconcagua. At 22,841 feet, Aconcagua is the highest mountain in both the Western and Southern Hemispheres.

Mullikin leaves next week for Australia, where among other scheduled business events, he will dive off the Great Barrier Reef; hardly a first time for the Camden native diving in-and-around the largest coral reef system in the world.
