My 5 Favorite Fall Places in Columbia
November 6, 2015By Jillian Owens
Anyone who knows me at all knows I have a longstanding hatred of cold weather. I’ve tried various coping mechanisms over the years, but nothing has been able to take away the cold weather blahs.
This year is going to be different, my friends. I’m tossing the SAD lamp aside. Rather than approaching colder weather with the same timidity that some approach a pool of freezing water, I’m diving in. I’ll be that girl you see gleefully dipping her pumpkin spice biscotti into her pumpkin spice latte with her pumpkin-colored gloved hand.
Yeah! FALL!
If you’re trying to get excited about fall, it helps to have some lovely places that become even more enjoyable this time of year. Here are mine. I hope to see you there in your fleece lined leggings soon!
This has always been a favorite place of mine. The menu is a localvore’s delight, and the cocktails are amazing. This season, Josh Streetman has concocted some pleasantly spicy and warming libations, like the honeycrisp apple cocktails you see below.
Forget your diet. When the wind gets that certain nip to it, you need comfort food. My personal favorite is the Southern Belly Dipper: A French roll laden with brown sugar barbecue with swiss cheese and bacon and a rich white sauce. The humbly eclectic & cozy décor is just a bonus.
There exists a theory that this tiny coffee hut on St. Andrews Road was placed there by angels, and who am I to disagree. My favorite beverage is their Café Con Miel, a cinnamon and local organic honey latte that might just bump Pumpkin Spice out of the running for best fall flavor.
Don’t confuse it with the instant variety from your college days. Ramen, when properly made, is an art form, and Menkoi has mastered it. I love their spicy ramen with pork, but there are several varieties to choose from. Slurp your soup with a hot green tea, and you’ll be in fall heaven.
Yes. It’s a grocery store. But it’s also so very much more! This is a single person’s culinary paradise. Don’t feel like cooking for one? You don’t have to! Just pop that frozen tray of delicious into the oven, baby and pop open a bottle of cheap wine. TJ’s has got you covered.
What are your favorite fall places in our fair city?
