New Art Exhibition Opens this Saturday, April 18

The South Carolina State Museum will open its next major art exhibition, Carolina Makers, this Saturday, April 18.  The exhibition, presented by Time Warner Cable, celebrates local makers, artists and craftspeople from South Carolina who are producing handmade objects for people all over the world. This exhibition brings to light the important contributions by local makers that sometimes may go unrecognized. Some of the featured makers include instrument builders, furniture makers, metal workers and clothing designers. Carolina Makers will run through Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016 and is included with membership or general admission.

 

Planetarium Live Sky Tour Offered Every Tuesday in April

Explore Columbia’s night sky during the South Carolina State Museum’s planetarium Live Sky Tours taking place every Tuesday in April at6 p.m. during Second Shift Twosday. The live presentation identifies constellations, planets and other celestial objects that grace the skies above Columbia.  Guests will learn how the sky changes over the course of the night and journey through space to Venus, Mars, Jupiter, The Pleiades and The Orion Nebula.  The entire museum is open during Second Shift Twosday, which takes place every Tuesday evening from 5 – 8 p.m.  Visit scmuseum.org to learn more.
