New Art Exhibits at Columbia Metropolitan Airport

WEST COLUMBIA SC – Continuing with our rotating arts program, Columbia Metropolitan Airport announced the installation of a new art exhibit featuring the four winners of the Columbia Museum of Art’s Contemporaries competition held earlier this year. The four artists are Anna Sims King, Rebecca Hinson, Katie Pfrommer and Rachel Parker:
Born and raised in Columbia, SC, Anna Sims King earned a BFA in Art and Fabric Design from the University of Georgia in 2006.
Today, gestural strokes, exploration of line, and suggested color elements build and enhance her work while unexpected color, dimension, movement and depth drive each piece in layers of light.
With an extended family history of South Carolina artists, Anna has always felt compelled to create. Whether it’s on canvas, film, paper, in the kitchen, or through fashion, she maintains a consciousness of environments while creating art to complement its ultimate surroundings.
Currently, Anna lives in Charleston with her husband Adam and her rescue “gas station” dog Pilot. Her studio is located in Redux Contemporary Art Center, and other works are currently on display at Mosa Boutique on King Street. For questions, sales, or inquiries, please visit www.annasimsking.com.
Katie Myers Pfrommer is passionate not only about creating art, but teaching art to others. A secondary art educator and local artist in Columbia, Katie focuses on a variety of mediums from painting and printmaking, to stained glass, batik, and ceramics. Originally from North Augusta, SC, Katie is a graduate of the Master of Arts in Teaching program from the University of South Carolina and also has a Bachelor of Science in Business from the Darla Moore School of Business. Currently Katie teaches Visual Art at Chapin High School and serves as the Education Chair for the Contemporaries at the Columbia Museum of Art.
This colorful series of non-objective paintings focuses on the power of color and metallic finishes to represent recent experiences.
Rachel Parker is an internationally collected watercolor artist. Her work has been showcased in both local and national magazines, including the cover of the American Veterinarian Association journal. Parker, who has studied with world renowned artist Tom Lynch, says that her inspiration is making her subject come alive through painting. Rachel works primarily in watercolor because she loves the sense of light this medium conveys. In all her paintings, she tries to make light the central theme. “Dramatic lighting can make a potato sack beautiful. Light is a life-giving force, and this is true in a painting as well – it breathes vitality and a sense of awe into the every day,” says Rachel. As the daughter of an artist, she has always been immersed in the world of art and loves to share her passion with her patrons and the public through her website www.rachelsstudio.com.
Rebecca Hinson is a Lowcountry artist living in Charleston, South Carolina who specializes in oil paintings of southern scenes, historic architecture, and cheerful animals.
Rebecca was raised on her family’s bicentennial farm in the Pee Dee region of SC where she developed a close connection to nature. She draws inspiration from her upbringing in the rural South and the beauty and charm of the Lowcountry.
Rebecca’s passion for art enticed her to live and study in Rome. The lush Italian countryside inspired her but brought her back to one of her favorite subjects, the American south. She enjoys painting what she knows and loves the south, the Lowcountry, and animals.
Rebecca can be found every day painting in her downtown Charleston art studio.
