New Year’s Day Brings Thousands of Customers to Lizard’s Thicket

December 30, 2015

What: Lizard’s Thicket, which has 15 restaurants in the Midlands and its newest location in Florence, S.C., makes plans for Jan. 1, 2016 when it will serve thousands of servings of collard greens, black-eyed peas and pork chops. These dishes are all staples of a traditional Southern New Year’s Day meal said to bring luck and wealth for the coming year.

Past New Year’s Day Sales: In all of its restaurants on Jan. 1, 2015, Lizard’s Thicket diners ordered 6,000 pork chops and 9,736 servings of black-eyed peas. The restaurant also sold 9,501 servings of fresh collard greens, all from Rawls Farm in Lexington, S.C.

This year: As New Year’s Day has been Lizard’s Thicket’s busiest day of the calendar year for several years running, the restaurant anticipates similar crowds in restaurants on Friday, Jan. 1, 2016.

More: All Lizard’s Thicket locations open on New Year’s Day at 6 a.m. for breakfast and begin serving lunch, including pork chops, black-eyed peas and collard greens at 11 a.m. A plate consisting of a meat and three vegetable sides is available for $7.99.
