Nexton Office Building in Summerville, SC awarded LEED® Gold certification

January 22, 2015

CHARLESTON, SC – In a victory for sustainable design in South Carolina, the Nexton Office Building, located in Summerville, South Carolina, has been awarded LEED® Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. This marks the second sustainability certification that the Nexton Office Building has received, as it has also received Green Globe certification. It also distinguishes the building as one of the few in the region to receive such a distinction.

LEED® Gold certification is a prestigious honor for the building, and is the second-highest LEED® certification possible. To receive the certification, Nexton Office Building had to meet a number of sustainable standards during its design and construction, including using sustainable materials, minimizing its environmental impact and maximizing water efficiency. The building was developed by a joint venture of The Rockefeller nextonmmsGroup and MeadWestvaco Corporation and the successful certification was the result of work by a team of individuals from the building’s owners and property managers: The Rockefeller Group, MeadWestvaco Corporation, LS3P and Colliers International.

Nexton Office Building is part of a development in Summerville, South Carolina just off of I-26 that incorporates neighborhoods, schools, retail spaces and offices. The entire community is based in principles of technology, efficiency and environmental responsibility. By achieving LEED® Gold certification, the Nexton Office Building advances these principles.

Currently occupied by MeadWestvaco, AIG Insurance and Palmetto Primary Care Physicians, Nexton Office Building is being actively marketed for lease by Peter Fennelly, SIOR, MCR, Simons Johnson, SIOR, CCIM, MCR, and Mark Mattison, SIOR, CCIM and managed by Meredith Millender, all of Colliers International.
