NFL great Charlie Brown to serve as assistant in SCCASB

GREENVILLE, SC – December 27, 2012 – Kingstree head football coach Charlie Brown will be joining one of his mentors on the sidelines for the South Carolina College All Star Bowl this March.

Brown will serve as an assistant for the Lowcountry team being coached by College Football Hall of Famer Willie Jeffries. Brown was an All-MEAC wide receiver at South Carolina State University in the 1970s when Jeffries was coaching there. Brown was drafted in the eighth round of the 1981 NFL Draft and was a Pro Bowl Selection in 1982 and 1983. He caught a touchdown pass in Super Bowl XVII.

After finishing is NFL career in 1987, Brown has coached more than 20 years at the high school, college and professional levels.

The South Carolina College All Star Bowl will feature two teams of seniors from South Carolina colleges and universities as well as players who played high school football in South Carolina, but went to out-of-state schools.

The South Carolina College All Star Bowl will be played on March 23, 2013 at 3 p.m. at North Greenville University. The game will be aired live to more than 4.5 million viewers throughout South Carolina as well as parts of Georgia and North Carolina. While Jeffries is leading the Lowcountry team, former Clemson great Danny Ford will coach the Upstate team. NFL veterans George Rogers, Patrick Sapp, Brandon Bennett, Woodrow Dantzler and others will serve as mentors to the players as they prepare for the game. Clemson and University of South Carolina broadcasters Will Merritt and Todd Ellis will provide commentary and insight for the game.
