Nonprofit teams come together to explore the power of mindset in leadership

May 12, 2016

DNA Creative Communications (DNA), in partnership with Community Foundation of Greenville, United Way of Greenville County and Hollingsworth Funds, hosted “Leading Forward: The Mindset of the Nonprofit Leader,” part of DNA’s 2016 Shine the Light Nonprofit Forums series “Transforming Nonprofits Through Innovative Leadership,” on May 10.

“Teams that are united and invested in accomplishing their organization’s goals are key to ensuring nonprofits are able to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow,” said Debbie Nelson, DNA president and founder of Shine the Light. “The glue that holds these teams together are leaders who are open to innovation and transformation and willing to lead their organization forward. It is inspiring to see so many nonprofit leaders eager to develop the skills to support a culture of change and engagement to help their organizations better achieve their missions now and in the future as needs in our communities continue to change.”

More than 100 executive directors and nonprofit leaders gathered at Shine the Light to learn, collaborate and plan with their team members. Keynote speaker Jovian Zayne, nationally-recognized leadership and professional development coach and leader in the professional development and diversity –training field, traveled to Greenville to share her expertise in change management, leadership development and organizational transition planning and design. Attendees explored innovative leadership strategies and the power of mindset in achieving an organization’s mission and generating transformational change.

Attendees also joined local business and community leaders in an authentic and dynamic conversation in Shine the Light’s new Innovation Labs. Together, they shared their experiences and insights to discuss how innovative leadership can engage, inspire and encourage teams and prepare organizations to thrive in the future. Innovation Lab facilitators included Michael Allen – McMillan Pazdan Smith, Whitney Hanna – Greenville County Schools, Billy Crank – Michelin North America (retired) and community volunteer, Calvin Hurst – TD Bank, Cherington Love Shucker – Greenville Center for Creative Arts, Tobi Kinsell – United Way of Greenville County, Beverly Ward – Talent Management, Jo Watson Hackl – Wyche Law Firm, Addy Matney – TM Public Relations, Nika White – Greenville Chamber of Commerce, and Carol Hamilton – Red Fox Road.
