Paul V. Fant, Sr. recognized as United Way Humanitarian of the Year

United Way of the Midlands will recognize Paul V. Fant, Sr. as the 2015 Humanitarian of the Year Award recipient at United Way’s annual Humanitarian of the Year Dinner and Award Ceremony on Feb. 25 at the University of South Carolina Alumni Center.

Fant, President of Fant Consulting LLC, currently serves as Senior Executive Consultant for Dominion Carolina Gas Transmission. Previously, he worked as President and Chief Operations Officer of Carolina Gas Transmission and Senior Vice President at SCANA Corporation.

Fant is active in the Midlands and currently serves as a board member of Palmetto Health and the Columbia Museum of Art. He serves on the Community Advisory Board of BB&T, the Strategic Advisory Group of South Carolina Research Authority and on the Community Advisory Council for the President of the University of South Carolina.

“Paul’s interest is helping people and he has been doing that in the Midlands and beyond for decades,” said Mac Bennett, President and CEO of United Way. “His passion and leadership skills continuously inspire those around him and affect the lives of many. Paul is a true humanitarian.”

Fant’s past board service includes United Way of the Midlands, where he served as board chair from 2006 to 2007. He has also served as campaign chair from 2004 to 2005 and has been a member of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society of the United Way since 2000. He is also a past chair of the boards of Palmetto Health Foundation, Columbia Urban League and Claflin University.

Fant is a member of the board for the American Missions Association for African Missions affiliated with the International Churches of Christ and is a member of the Columbia Church of Christ.

A native of Charlotte, Fant graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering in 1975. He is married to the former Elveta Reid and they have three sons, a daughter and eight grandchildren.

The Humanitarian of the Year Award is given each year to an individual who clearly demonstrates extraordinary leadership in philanthropic and human services. It is the highest single honor of philanthropic achievement in the Midlands.
