Pawmetto Lifeline honored as an “Angel Charity” by Secretary of State

COLUMBIA, SC – Pawmetto Lifeline has been recognized by the South Carolina Secretary of State, Mark Hammond, as one of the top ten Angel organizations in South Carolina. Deloris Mungo, President of the Board of Pawmetto Lifeline, stated “The integrity of our organization is the greatest assurance we can give a donor. This award validates the hard work we do every day to ensure that the mission of creating a better community for all to live, including our companion pets, is an important part of who we are as a community and an organization.”

Ten organizations were recognized as “Angels” in the 19th annual Scrooges and Angels list. Pawmetto Lifeline was the only Midlands organization selected for the 2014 list, as well as the only organization that represents animal welfare issues.

“To be selected as a South Carolina Angel is truly a blessing for our organization and our cause. Efficiencies and effectiveness are part of our daily operational goals and for this to be major criteria for this award; we are honored to be recognized. Each day, we work to provide for our homeless pets and pets that belong to local citizens who may need a helping hand, all in an effort to address pet overpopulation in the Midlands. Through the hard work and dedication of our volunteers, our board, our staff, and our community supporters, we are able to do this work while dedicating our funds to programs that benefit more than 35,000 companion pets annually in South Carolina,” said Denise Wilkinson, Pawmetto Lifeline CEO.

“Angels” are selected by review of financial reports submitted annually to the Secretary of State’s Office, as well as by nominations from the public. To be selected as an Angel, the charity must have devoted at least 80 percent or more of its total expenditures to charitable programs; must have been in existence for three or more years; must make good use of volunteer services; must receive minimal funding from grants; and must be registered with the South Carolina Secretary of State.

Pawmetto Lifeline was honored alongside nine other charities that included veteran housing services, domestic violence assistance, and youth programs.
