PC Football Inks 25 for 2013

 CLINTON, SC – February 6, 2013 – Presbyterian College football coach Harold Nichols announced the signing of 25 student-athletes for the 2013 season.  The class includes nine defensive linemen, three offensive linemen, four running backs, a defensive back, two tight ends, two wide receivers, a linebacker, a kicker, and two quarterbacks.  Six players hail from South Carolina, while 10 are from Georgia and one is from North Carolina.  PC also signed a player from Alabama, four from Florida and three from Kansas to round out the 25 on signing day.
“Today is the culmination of a lot of hard work by our coaching staff. We believe we have attracted an outstanding class of young men that will be the building blocks of our program moving forward,” said Coach Nichols.  “I want to thank everyone involved in this process. Our administration, faculty, and athletic department all played a big part in making this day a success.”

Curtis Bey (DL, 6-3, 300, Ridge View HS)

Aside from football, Bey participated on the track team in the shot-put and discus events … Earned All-State honors in 2012  and All-Area accolades his sophomore and junior years … He also played in the Shrine Bowl, the fourth player in school history to do so … In three years he has posted 193 tackles, 34 tackles for a loss, 16.5 sacks, four fumble recoveries and three pass break-ups …  He was also the senior class secretary, FCA president, and AVID honor society president and went on a mission trip in 2012 to Nicaragua … He chose PC because he felt like it was a second home … PC has great academics and he felt as though it would help him with his future … From Columbia, S.C. .. Darrell Bridges (RB, 6-1, 200, Ridgeland HS)

A member of a football team that went 13-2 this past season, earning the regional championship and finishing as the state championship runner-up … Bridges also ran track and competed in the 4X100 … He broke the area and school rushing record with 2,430 yards and posted a school record 39 touchdowns his senior season … Bridges was named to the Georgia High School (first team) and All-State teams and was Region Offensive Player of the Year, the Walker County Offensive Player of the Year and Chattanooga’s Best of the Preps first team running back …  In two years, he totaled 3,830 rushing yards and 47 touchdowns … A Freshman Scholastic of Excellence Award, he was also a FCA leader … He chose PC due to the coaching staff, education program and family atmosphere … From Rossville, Ga. … A senior Ridgeland High School … Son of Yolanda Bridges and Johnni Shetter …

Kenyon Brown (DB, 5-11, 175, Clinton HS)

Played corner, wide receiver and running back for Clinton… Helped the Red Devils to a state title in 2009… Hauled in an interception against Newberry (8/31/12) and another against Woodruff (10/26/12)… Also saw time returning kicks and punts… Ran track and played basketball, setting the long jump record at 22 feet, 9 inches and helping the hoops squad to a region title in 2011 after helping track finish third in 2010… Earned a spot on the honor roll… Son of Shari Williams …

Craig Bryan (RB, 6-1, 250, Monroe Academy)

His high school team was AISA Region Champions all five season he was a member … The team, which posted a five-year combined record of 56-8, advanced to the state semifinals all five years, making it to the finals in 2009 and 2010 and winning the state championship in 2009, with a record of 11-2 … As a kicker, Bryan kicked a game-winning 40-yard field goal with three seconds left … In 2011, Bryan posted a school-record 54 yard field goal … He was named  to the All State AISA 1st Team from 2009 – 2012 and was the Monroe County Player of the year in 2011 and 2012 … He was also selected to the Monroe County Elite 18 four straight years and earned ASWA 1st Team Placekicker-South Alabama in 2009 and 2010 … He was won the Strongest Man-NUC Combine in April 2011 and played in the AISA All Star Game in 2012, earning Most Outstanding Defensive Lineman of the west team … His career numbers include 169 rushes for 1564 yards and 17 touchdowns … On the defensive side of the ball he recorded 258 tackles and 33.5 sacks … As a kicker Bryan was 200-for-225 PATs and 15-for-20 in field goals … He chose PC because of the feeling he had during his official visit … From Monroeville, Ala. … Senior at Monroe Academy … Son of Craig and Shari Bryan …

Jake Foster (TE, 6-4, 225, Easley HS)

Tre’von Howell (WR, 6-1, 175, Ridge View HS)

Four-year starter at football … Played basketball as well … Earned several accolades including the Offensive Skill Award as a junior and the Leadership Award, Captain’s Award and Offensive MVP Award as a senior … His senior season, he caught 68 passes for 888 yards … A member of the Avid Honor Society, he chose PC because it was the best fit for him … From Columbia, S.C. … Senior at Ridge View HS … Son of Reginald & Tammie Howell …

Kris Hurley (TE, 6-4, 230, Georgia Military College) – Enrolled at PC Spring Semester, 2013

Played at Georgia Military College, earning a spot in the Champs Heart of Texas Bowl… Attended Archer High School, earning the Team First award (for commitment to the team) and captained the team in both junior and senior year… Was named Gwinnett County Player of the Month… Lettered in three sports—track, wrestling and football… Excelled academically at Georgia Military College, graduated cum laude and appearing on the President’s and Dean’s List every quarter… A member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society… Cites youth pastor Chris Stacy as his biggest influence, getting him to play football and helping to shape his life …

Brandon James (OL, 6-3, 275, Estero HS)

His Estero HS team went 8-3 this past season, marking the first time Estero posted a winning record … Advanced to the 5A play-offs … Was selected to the Florida Athletic Coaches Association District 18, All-District First Team, All County First Team, NDN All-Area Team and was selected to participate in the John Carrigan Rotary South All-Star Classic football game … Picked PC based on his visit, of which afterwards he knew it was the place for him … From Estero, Fla. … Senior at Estero High School … Son of Jonny and Sandy James … His father played football at West Virginia …

Kamren Mack (DL, 6-2, 240, Chamblee HS)

His team recorded an 8-2 overall record and 4-1 in the league his senior season …  Was a four-year letter-winner and a member of the 6-4A All-Region Team … A four-year letter-winner … He finished his senior season with 46 tackles, five sacks, four fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and one pass break-up …  A member of the Future Business Leaders of America and the Y Club, he chose PC because of its emphasis on academics … From Lithonia Ga. … A senior at Chamblee Charter High School … Son of Valarie R. LaQua Mayes (RB, 5-10, 190, Hutchinson CC) – Enrolled at PC Spring Semester, 2013

Played two seasons at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College, rushing for 300 yards and three touchdowns as a freshman and 400 yards and four touchdowns as a sophomore… Attended Rose Hill High School in Rose Hill, Kan…. Was named to the All-League First Team as a junior and senior and also picked up All-State, All-Metro and League MVP honors both years… Ran track as well… Made honor roll every year…

Heys McMath (QB, 6-4, 200 Savannah Country Day)

Played several sports in high school … was a quarterback in football, a forward in basketball, pitcher in baseball and competed in the high jump as a member of the track team … In football he was a member of the All-State, All-Region, All-Prep teams and was also selected to the All-Greater Savannah, All-Atlanta score 44 teams. … He earned Athlete-of-the-Week accolades by several media stations and newspapers as well … A three-year starter, McMath threw for over 5,000 yards and 42 touchdowns … He led the team in rushing his senior year with 106 attempts and 626 yards with 10 touchdowns … He chose PC because it was a great school that was committed to academics as well as athletics and it was a great fit … From Savannah, Ga. … Senior at Savannah Country Day School … Son of Heys and Marquin McMath …

Matt Mourao (DL, 6-1, 240, Ponte Vedra HS)

Starred at Ponte Vedra (Fla.) High School as a linebacker, captaining the team to a 9-2 record in 2012 and an undefeated record in district play en route to the District 4-5A championship and the playoffs… As a senior, named to the St. Augustine Preseason Super 16 Team, captured MVP Defense honors as well as spots on the Florida Athletic Coaches Association All-District First Team and the Florida Times Union All-First Coast Third Team… Led the team in sacks (second in district) and was named to the St. Johns County All-District Team… Totaled 78 tackles (24 for a loss) with 7.5 sacks, six batted passes, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and an interception as a senior… As a junior, helped the team to a 10-2 record as a defensive end, winning the District 4-5A championship and reaching the State Regional final while going undefeated at home… As a junior, was named Defensive Lineman of the Year… Earned St. Johns County All-District First Team honors and led the team and District 4-5A in  sacks… Tallied 70 tackles (16 for a loss), 10 sacks, three batted passes, five forced fumbles and two recoveries in 2011… Also played two years of JV football and a season of baseball as a freshman, pitching and playing at third base… Volunteers with Best Buddies, interacting and working with intellectually disabled students in and out of the classroom …

Jacob Nesmith (DL, 6-3, 240, Forsyth Central) – Enrolled at PC Spring Semester, 2013

Participated in several sports in high school … He was a defensive end, tight end, offensive tackle and fullback on the football team, and was a member of the wrestling team In the Heavyweight Division he advanced to the state championships and won multiple tournaments … As a member of the track team he earned 1st Place wins in the shot-put, discus, 4X1 first leg sprinter and the 200 meter  … In football he played in the North Fulton/Forsyth All Star Game …  As a senior he recorded 52 tackles and had over 70 knockdowns … He also blocked five field goals … He chose PC in order to grow to grow in my spirituality … From Cumming, Ga. …Graduated Forsyth Central High School in 2012 … attended Air Force Academy Preparatory School … Son of Glenn and Diane Nesmith … His brother, Nicholas Nesmith, plays football at Georgia State …

Obinna Ntiasagwe (DL, 6-2, 240, Ridge View HS)

In three years in high school, he accumulated 265 tackles, 46 tackles for a loss, 20 sacks, three fumble recoveries, and four pass break-ups … Ntiasagwe was a WLTX Player of the Week and was selected to play in the North/South All-Star Game … A SC State Top 25 High School Recruit, he was named the team’s Defensive Line MVP in 2011 … In 2012 he was named to the All-Area Selection Team …

Joseph Purter (DL/TE, 6-3, 240, Shaw HS)

Khari Rosier (DL, 6-3, 210, Chamblee HS)

As a senior at Chamblee High School, Rosier compiled 67 total tackles, including 38 solo tackles and two sacks… Also recovered three fumbles and registered three quarterback hurries… Blocked a field goal with five seconds left to force overtime in a 27-24 win over Greater Atlanta Christian (9/13/12)… Made 10 solo tackles against Marist (11/2)… Helped Chamblee to an 8-2 record …

Joaquin Ross (DL, 6-0, 225, Alcovy HS)

Earned All-Region honors … As a senior, he posted 65 tackles, five sacks, one forced fumble and four pass breakups … He also played baseball in HS … A Church Class Leads and YDP Vice President, Ross chose PC based on its academics and the tremendous coaching staff … From Covington, Ga. … Senior at Alcovy High School … Son of Antonio and Sabrina Ross …

Dillon Salmans (OL, 6-2, 280, Garden City CC) – Enrolled at PC Spring Semester, 2013

In high school he lettered in football all four years … Earned All State honors as an offensive and defensive lineman … He also wrestled all four years, placing 5th, 3rd, 1st and 1st, at the 3-2-1A State Wrestling Championships … Recorded 192 tackles, including 73 his senior year, and had nine sacks … On the offensive side of the ball he posted 106 carries for 402 yards and three touchdowns in four years … Played football at Garden City Community College as well, leading the team to the Mississippi Bowl Championships as a Sophomore … This past season he was named All-Conference Honorable Mention … He chose PC because he thought it was a great college academically … From Hoxie, KS … Graduated Hoxie High school in 2011, then attended Garden City Community College … Son of Blaine and Lori Salmans …

 Levent Sands (RB, 5-10, 180, St. Augustine HS)

Played football all four years on a team that combined for a 41-4 record, including a 13-2 mark in 10th grad and an 11-1 mark his senior year … Also ran for a track team that made it to regionals in 2011 in the 4X100 … His weight lifting team made it to regionals where he was five pounds away from  the state in 2011 … He also played on the basketball team as a freshman and sophomore … Earned letters in all sports he participated in … Was the only RB in school history to rush for over 1,000 yards in two seasons … Sands also had over 40 touchdowns in his high school career … He earned All-Conference, All-District and All-State honors, as well as the Top Jacket Award his junior and senior years … That award is given by the coaches on performance and leadership … Chose PC because it fit him best … From St. Augustine, Fla. … Senior at St. Augustine, HS … Son of Victor and Delphine Sands …

Derrick Washington (DL, 6-3, 310, Baldwin HS)

A member of a high school team that participated in the play-offs all four years … He also ran track and field, competing in the shot-put and discus … Named to the Preseason all-state 1st team and played in the East vs. West All-Star game  as a starter on defense and offense.  Earned a Best Offensive Lineman award and the Baldwin Brave Dedication Award … Selected to the first team All Region as well and earned letters in football and track … He averaged six pancakes per game on offense and eight solo tackles per game on defense … He chose PC because he fit right in to the warm and loving campus and he felt that he will be successful both athletically and academically at PC … From Milledgeville, Ga. … Senior at Baldwin HS … Son of Bernadette Lewis and James Washington … Cousin Leroy Hill played for the Seattle Seahawks and brother Michael Washington played at South Carolina …

Daryl Wilson (WR, 6-1, 190, Hendersonville HS)

A three-year varsity starter on a team that won the conference all every year he played … Wilson was a member of the All-State, All-WNC, All-conference, All-District and All-Area teams … He played in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas …  A senior at Hendersonville HS, he is the all-time leading receiver with 44 catches for 992 yards and 47 touchdown catches … His senior season he recorded 12 touchdowns … He also ran track for two years placing seventh in the 200 as a sophomore … Track All-State , All-WNC and All-Conference member and advanced to regionals his sophomore season … He also went on a Cuba Mission trip with his church … He chose PC because It was similar to his high school … He likes the relationships he’ll be able to have with his professors … He didn’t want to go somewhere and be just a number … PC is Division I and he loved the coaches and felt an immediate connection when he stepped on campus … From Hendersonville, N.C. … A senior at Hendersonville High School … Son of Ben and Latiisha Gash … One of his uncles, Eric Gash, played football at North Carolina, while another uncle, Sam Gash, played football at Penn State and was a member of the Buffalo Bills … He is on the HS Wall of Fame and a member of the All-Conference in academics …

Stephen Wilson (LB, 6-1, 200, Wando HS)

Enjoyed a versatile career at Wando High School, playing linebacker and seeing time at running back… Set the record for the fastest 40-yard dash for linebackers (4.36seconds) and the record for highest power clean for running backs (315 lbs.)… Compiled 169 rushes for 814 yards and 18 touchdowns… Also hauled in six receptions for 49 yards… As a senior, tallied 818 all-purpose yards with eight touchdowns… On the defensive side of the ball, registered 51.5 tackles (41 solo, 21 assists) including nine tackles for loss and two sacks… Hurried the quarterback 16 times and tallied 17 ball disruptions… Earned three letters as well as the team’s 2012 Ultimate Warrior award (best athlete on the team) and captured Player of the Week honors against Colleton County… Was on the honor roll for four years… Also ran track, competing in the 4-by-1 relay and the 100-meter dash as well as the high jump and long jump… Was named to the Honor Roll four years in a row.

Brett Wilson (K, 5-9, 180, Apopka HS)

Was a kicker and punter at Apopka HS … His first year in HS the team went 6-5 and earned a spot in the play-offs … His second season the team posted a 13-2 record and won the class 8A state championship …  A member of the 8A All-State 3rd team and All Central Florida 1st team in 2012 … Went four-of-six in field goals and was a perfect 45-of-45 in extra points in 2011 and was flawless in 2012, going seven-of-seven in field goals and 68-of-68 in extra points … He also played soccer as a forward and center midfield, posting 20 total goals and 16 assists, and was on the water polo team, where he played at the goalkeeper and winger positions … An AP Scholar Award Medical Magnet Student of the month, Wilson was also a member of the weightlifting team from 2010-2012 … He picked PC due to the academic possibilities and great atmosphere … From Apopka, Florida .. .Senior at Apopka High School … Son of Ivette and Mike Wilson …

Keenan Wise (QB, 6-0, 180, Locust Grove HS)

A multi-sport athlete in high school, he played football (quarterback), Basketball (point guard) and baseball (centerfield and 2nd base) … He was 2nd team All Region Quarterback in 2012 and set school records for passing yards, passing touchdowns (career and single season), rushing touchdowns and yards (career and single season) … In basketball he earned 2nd team All Region honors in 2011 …  In 2011 Wise passed for 1,010 yards and threw seven touchdowns and in 2012 he posted 1,319 yards and 15 TDs … He also rushed for 1,800 yards and recorded 20 TDs his last two seasons … An FCA member, he chose PC because the atmosphere was exactly what he was looking for and it felt like home … From Locust Grove, Ga. … A senior at Locust Grove High School … Is the son of Mary and Greg Wise …
