Peter Barth, Managing Director, The Next Big Thing
March 28, 2012The Next Big Thing is a 13 week startup accelerator based in Greenville, SC. Part of the TechStars Network, the #1 accelerator program in the world, it offers companies the opportunity to pitch at Demo Day in front of hundreds of investors. Companies that are chosen receive seed funding from a diverse group of early stage venture capital firms and angel investors, along with three months of incredible mentorship.
They are looking for extremely talented teams with great ideas in big markets. They fund technology companies, typically web and mobile software companies, but occasionally they accept teams outside those categories.
They invest $18,000 per company in exchange for 6% ownership stake. They expect to have all the same rights as any other founder, relative to their minority ownership position. In a nutshell, they don’t want any special or controlling interests in your company. They won’t ask for a board seat or for any uncommon investor rights. You will still run the show.
You must be willing to relocate to Greenville for the summer and dedicate 100% of your time for the duration of the program. There’s no commitment to stay in Greenville after the program, although we’d love to have you stay.
The process is very selective; hundreds of teams apply and only 10 teams are chosen, so bring your A game and apply now!
