Pleasant Hill Middle yearbook staff takes top honors

Pleasant Hill Middle School’s 2016 Cougar Pride yearbook is getting noticed for its creativity.
The South Carolina Scholastic Press Association presented members of the yearbook staff with the All-State and Palmetto Awards during the annual fall conference on October 3.
All-State is SCSPA’s highest evaluation rating when yearbooks demonstrate excellence in all areas of scholastic journalism by integrating writing, graphic design and photography to give readers an excellent record of the school year.
“We are very fortunate to have a school that is dynamic in so many ways. My eighth-graders were able to capture those memories with hard work and dedication to their publication. I am so proud of them,” said yearbook adviser Rene’ Horton.
The Palmetto Award is given to the best yearbook in its class, which includes high schools, middle schools and private schools, based on school enrollment.
Members of the 2016 Cougar Pride were Madison Barrett, Caroline Bedenbaugh, Baylin Bible, Carlie Blackmon, Belle Coffman, Cameron Long, Hannah Norris, Sara Norton, Emma Grace Powers, Taylor Spires and McKayla Tuten.
“Yearbook helped me learn so many skills and techniques that will help me through life. I also have made relationships that will last a lifetime,” Norris said.
“I’m so glad I was on the staff,” Spires agreed. “It was exciting to see the finished product and build great friendships throughout the year.”
Powers added, “I felt so accomplished for finishing the book. It’s something I will always remember.”
