Prepare for Severe Weather on Thursday and Possible Tornadoes

March 17, 2021

It’s been a rainy year so far but dangerous storms are predicted for Thursday, March 18th.

According to the National Weather Service, Laurens County is in the high risk zone for severe weather including heavy rain, high winds, hail and possible tornadoes.   Damaging winds and large hail are considered to be the greatest threat.  The worst of the weather is expected to come through our area between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm but that could change.

Everyone is urged to have a plan in place, multiple ways to receive warnings, and a safe place to shelter.

In the event that a tornado warning is issued, immediately seek the best available refuge area. Good options include an interior room of a well constructed home or building, or in a basement.  The worst places to go include mobile homes, vehicles, and underneath a highway overpass.  Also considered to be bad options include large open rooms (like a gym) and manufactured housing.

Stay alert and be safe.
