Prince of Peace Catholic Church to host the Lyon Boys Choir – February 12

February 11, 2018

Prince of Peace Catholic Church and School, in collaboration with the Lyon Boys Choir, announces one special concert event to be held February 12, 2018, at 7 p.m. inside Prince of Peace Catholic Church.

The Lyon Boys Choir is based at Les Chartreux, a private Catholic school for boys, in France. Founded in 1825 by Catholic priests, this educational establishment serves over 2,600 students ranging from 2 to 22 years old.

The 27 students, who make up the choir of Les Chartreux, learn not only in the classroom, but also during their tours and travel experiences. They are taught the necessary skills needed for autonomy, group life and leadership in order to succeed in their adult lives.

Similar to their set list for their Southeastern U.S. tour, the Lyon Boys Choir will perform a diverse repertoire ranging from Handel to Lenard Cohen. In the past, this choir has performed Faure’s Requiem and the Gloria of Vivaldi, with much success, throughout Germany, France, Italy and Switzerland. In 2015, they also performed in Rome for the International Congress and Pope Francis.

“Prince of Peace aspires under the leadership of its Pastor, Father Smith, and Alan Reed to worship God with beautiful Catholic liturgy and to offer its parishioners and the whole Upstate community great musical events both sacred and profane,” said Thierry P. Wersinger, Prince of Peace parishioner who is assisting Patricia Van Wynsberghe, an active member of the Greenville French community, in arranging this concert event. “I believe this performance will teach young adults the importance of preserving historical music that has affected so much of our world’s antiquity.”

Known throughout Europe and America for his musical influence, Robert Hillebrand will be directing the choir. Hillebrand began his career as a soloist at Saint Augustin’s Church in Vienna, Austria, until he was appointed to guide the vocal training of the all-boys choirs, Maîtrise de la Primatiale de Lyon and Petits Chanteurs de Saint Marc in France. He has since been responsible for the growing presence of sacred choral music and performances.

If you or someone you know enjoys listening to live, vocal music, prepare to be captivated by this choir’s ability to deliver a performance like no other.
