RICHLAND COUNTY, SC – The Richland Penny Program has issued a Notice to Proceed to AOS Specialty Contractors, Inc. to begin construction on the Lincoln Tunnel Greenway Project. The project will begin Dec. 7 and end in summer 2016. The contract award amount is approximately $1 million and includes funding from the City of Columbia and the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism.

The Lincoln Tunnel Greenway will have a 14-foot wide multi-use asphalt path that will travel from Taylor St., at Finlay Park, to Elmwood Ave. Features of the greenway will include decorative lighting, select areas of landscaping, car parking, bike racks, all-weather benches, and decorative fencing. Signage will also be featured along the greenway.

“We are excited to begin a project within another category; Greenways,” said Rob Perry, Richland County transportation director. “This has been a collaborative effort, and is the first of several projects that will  begin construction in 2016.”
