Richland One teachers named finalists for prestigious national awards

Alison Espinosa of A.C. Flora High School and Richland One Teacher of the Year Jennifer Wise of Hand Middle School have been named state finalists for the 2014-2015 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

They are among eight South Carolina educators chosen as finalists for the prestigious award, which is the highest recognition that a K-12 mathematics or science teacher may receive. Mrs. Espinosa and Mrs. Wise are finalists in the mathematics category.

Award winners receive a certificate signed by the president of the United States, a trip to Washington, D.C. and a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation. The winners will be announced next year.
