September 16, 2016

Dr. Perry Mills, Sr., principal of Blythewood Academy, has been selected to participate in the 2016–2017 SC Education Policy Fellowship Program (SC-EPFP).

Dr. Mills joins 15 other professional and civic leaders from across South Carolina for a 10-month intensive professional development program. This program is designed for established and emerging leaders in education and related fields and helps equip participants in working toward sound education policy and practice in South Carolina. SC-EPFP Fellows participate in a variety of activities that promote leadership, develop professional networks, demystify education policy, and foster a greater understanding of the roles of government and the community.

“Dr. Mills’ background in the military combined with his dedication to his students has made him an exceptional leader in our district,” said Dr. Baron Davis, Richland School District Two Superintendent-Elect and past SC-EPFP Fellow. “We are excited about this opportunity for Dr. Mills and for the district, which will be enriched by his expanded education policy knowledge.”

Fellows will meet monthly throughout the academic year for full-day dialogues, exercises and group projects, in addition to an overnight in-state Fall Leadership Forum and a four-day Washington Policy Seminar hosted by the Institute for Educational Leadership.

Dr. Mills is beginning his eighth year at Blythewood Academy. After serving in the U.S. Army for 20 years, Dr. Mills became an educator in 2005 and joined the district in 2008 as an assistant principal at Polo Road Elementary.
