Rick Roberts announces candidacy for County Council District 21 Seat

March 30, 2016

GREENVILLE, SC – Rick Roberts is excited to announce his candidacy as a Republican for Greenville County Council District 21.  The seat is being vacated by Jim Burns, who has held the position since 2004.

Roberts has lived in Greenville since 1974, is a graduate of Mauldin High School and Clemson University where he received a bachelor’s degree in business management with a minor in marketing and communications. Since that time, Roberts has resided in District 21. He and his wife Kim and their two young daughters, Kyley (14) and Reese (9), are active members of the Greenville Community. Rick has served on the HOA of multiple communities as well as the PTA at Northwood Middle School and Buena Vista Elementary School. He has been a member of the Meyer Center Board and currently serves on their Ambassador Board as well as being actively involved with Meals on Wheels Greenville County.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to represent the citizens of District 21,” said Roberts. “As an active and engaged member of our community, I understand that there has been some level of frustration with the current leadership. Our constituents should expect more from their county representative. We should expect our councilman to serve as an advocate and ally to our citizens, listening to their ideas and concerns and casting honest votes so that together, we can better our future. I will work night and day to ensure that every phone call, email and letter is responded to in a timely fashion. You should always expect to have direct and open lines of communication with your local county representative.

I will guard your tax dollars because I understand how hard you work for your money.  For example, we should not have to read about millions of dollars wasted on a failed attempt to build an unneeded Welcome Center while our roads are crumbling around us. The rapid growth in our district has caused our infrastructure and citizens much stress! We can no longer continue to expect what were once rural roads to support the enormous amount of new growth and traffic volume that is continuously added. I had never planned on entering politics, however, I am a businessman who sees decisions being made that in the business world would not lead to another four year contract but instead be lead out of the office with a pink slip and personals in a box.  I can promise the people of District 21 that I will be a representative that makes honest decisions, fight for growth that is manageable, and guard their tax dollars.”

Roberts has served in various professional roles including the VP of Operations at Roberts Communication Construction Inc., where he helped exponentially grow the company.  “I learned the importance of managing every dollar, which allowed us to be profitable during both good and bad economies.” He is currently the President of KMC Benefits Inc., a benefits consulting and brokerage firm that focuses on helping large employers reduce costs associated with benefits and develop plans to improve the health and satisfaction of employees.

“I look forward to meeting our neighbors in District 21 on the road to the election on June 14th,” says Roberts.
