Riggs Partners Chooses Organizations to Receive CreateAthon Services

September 3, 2013

COLUMBIA, SC – September 3, 2013 – Eight Midlands-area nonprofit organizations will be the beneficiaries of free marketing and creative services provided by Riggs Partners in its 16th annual CreateAthon®. The 24-hour work-around-the-clock effort will begin Thursday, October 24.

Organizations selected as CreateAthon clients this year include:  Carolina Wildlife Care, Dickerson Center for Children, District Five Foundation for Educational Excellence, Epworth Children’s Home, Family Shelter, Healthy Learners, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Columbia, and St. Lawrence Place.

We are always overwhelmed by the many opportunities that CreateAthon gives us to serve wonderful organizations that are making a true difference in the lives of South Carolinians, and this year was no different, said Cathy Monetti, Riggs partner and co-founder of CreateAthon. Just reviewing the dozens of applications we receive is a heart-warming process that reminds us of the important work that takes place in our community. Ultimately, we select our CreateAthon clients based on where we can make the broadest impact on this community by donating marketing and public relations services.

CreateAthon was originally created by Riggs Partners in 1997. Since the program’s expansion from a single market to an international effort in 2002, 85 agencies have joined the creative network, holding CreateAthon events in their cities. The effort has benefited more than 1,500 nonprofit organizations with approximately 3,200 projects valued at $16.1 million.

This year, 21 agencies across the United States and Canada and an agency in Fiji will join Riggs Partners in hosting their own CreateAthon events, many during National CreateAthon Week, October 20-26. In addition, Virginia Commonwealth University, the University of South Carolina and Furman University will host CreateAthon on Campus events during the 2013-2014 academic year.

CreateAthon has truly matured over the past few years, said Teresa Coles, Riggs partner and CreateAthon co-founder. With the establishment of our own 501c3, the hiring of an executive director, and the development of partnerships with national entities like the Taproot Foundation and A Billion + Change, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to engage more agencies, corporations and academic institutions in the notion of skills-based pro bono service.
