S.C. Phil creates Advisory Council

Arts veteran Arnold N. Breman named chair
The South Carolina Philharmonic Board of Directors voted to create an advisory council to be comprised of area leaders willing to serve as ambassadors for the orchestra in the community.
Leaders of diverse demographic backgrounds and in multiple disciplines – government, education, business, religion, and philanthropy – are to be sought and used to connect the S.C. Phil with a broader segment of the community. Invitations to join the council will start being issued at the beginning of 2017. There is no limit set on how many members the council can have.
Arnold N. Breman, a retired Columbia newcomer with 50 years of experience in the arts, was voted as the advisory council’s first chairman. Breman’s experience includes executive and artistic directorships, including with the Joffrey Ballet in New York City and Chicago, Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach, Fla., and Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, Fla. In 1992 he served as president of the International Society of the Performing Arts. His 2007 book, Laughter in the Wings, shares humorous anecdotes from experiences with superstar performers with whom he has worked.
