CHARLESTON, SC – August 6, 2012 – Hundreds of law students are expected to attend the Charleston School of Law’s third all-school Convocation at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 23, 2012.  The keynote speaker at the event, which will be held at the Charleston Music Hall on John Street, is Angus H. Macaulay, a Columbia attorney who is president of the South Carolina Bar.

“We’re starting the new academic year with a bang at our August 23 Convocation,” said Dean Andy Abrams.  “Every year at the Convocation, we welcome new students and greet returning students as we bring our legal community together.  We’re excited to be starting our ninth year of providing high-quality legal education at a downtown Charleston campus.”

Angus H. Macaulay, president of the S.C. Bar, is a member of Nexsen Pruet, a multi-specialty business law firm headquartered in Columbia.  The firm, which has 180 attorneys, has eight offices throughout the Carolinas, including one in Charleston.

“We’re proud that S.C. Bar President Angus Macaulay will address our students this year,” Abrams said.  “His commitment to using the law as a means of improving the lives of others exemplifies those values which we seek to instill in our students at the Charleston School of Law.”

Macaulay, a specialist in employment and labor law certified by the South Carolina Supreme Court, concentrates his practice representing management in employment litigation matters.  He also provides practical advice to employers on ways to minimize litigation risks and comply with federal and state employment laws.

Macaulay, who has served on the boards of several civic and legal organizations, has a bachelor’s degree from The University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn., and a law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law.  In 2003, his law school alumni association honored him with its Compleat Lawyer  Silver Award in recognition for 14 years of practicing law.  This award recognizes attorneys for “Competence, Ethics and Integrity.”
