SC Economic Developers’ Association Annual Conference

COLUMBIA, SC – May 1, 2012 – The S.C. Economic Developers’ Association (SCEDA) will host its annual conference May 2-4 at the Westin Hilton Head Island Resort. 

“Our annual conference is always the most anticipated economic development event of the year for our members,” said Heather Simmons Jones, SCEDA president. “We will have a full slate of newsworthy and informative presenters at the conference, along with numerous opportunities for economic development professionals to network.”
 
Highlights of this year’s agenda include:

  • May 3 – S.C. Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt will speak on his agency’s marketing strategy
  • May 3 – S.C. State Ports Authority CEO Jim Newsome will speak on the state of the ports
  • May 4 – Frank Rainwater of the S.C. Board of Economic Advisors will speak on the state of S.C. economy
  • May 4 – Don Schjeldahl of Competitive Ready will present a case study on Sierra Nevada Brewery and its decision to locate in Asheville, N.C.
  • May 4 – Dr. Christine Chmura of Chmura Economics will speak on building a competitive work force

SCEDA will also install George Wolfe of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP as its 2012-13 president and present its annual awards at the event.
