Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands announces 2016 Ambassadors of Change

May 4, 2016
To kick off Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April, Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands invited local leaders to join our vision of creating a community free of sexual violence.

One hundred changemakers took a pledge on Thursday, March 31 at the 2nd annual Ambassadors of Change Reception. These community members from Lexington, Richland, Newberry, and Sumter counties served as Ambassadors of Change throughout the month of April.

Ambassadors arrived at a secret location to begin their mission as changemakers. Once inside, they learned of services STSM provides to survivors of sexual assault and how to get involved in ending sexual violence in the community. They took a pledge to use their voice as a leader in the community to speak out against this violence.

Ambassadors received a superhero lapel pin and 100 business cards that included resources for survivors of sexual assault and information about the impact assault has on the Midlands. Throughout the month of April, Ambassadors talked to community members on the importance of sexual assault education to create a safe environment for survivors and their supporters.

“It’s important for local leaders and change makers in our community to realize what an impact sexual assault has on our community. By inviting them to participate and be an Ambassador of Change, we know that we can stop the violence,” Executive Director, Mary Dell Hayes says.
Sexual Assault Awareness Month wrapped up last week, but the fight to end sexual assault and create a community free of sexual violence is a yearlong battle. To join STSM and other Ambassadors in this fight, visit our website at www.stsm.org.
