Shane Whiddon named Executive Chef at Virginia’s on King, announces new menu featuring Lowcountry favorites

Virginia’s on King, a restaurant specializing in quintessential Lowcountry cuisine in the heart of Charleston, announced that Shane Whiddon has been hired as Executive Chef. A Georgia native with more than 17 years of cooking experience in the South, Whiddon has introduced a new menu that highlights 100 percent scratch-made ingredients.

“Since the beginning, our goal has been to create an unforgettable dining experience using my family’s most beloved recipes,” shares Virginia Bennett, the inspiration and namesake of Virginia’s on King. “I’ve been impressed with the way Chef Whiddon has respected our techniques while bringing an innovative new mindset to the kitchen.”

Whiddon’s passion for cooking comes from his love of hunting, fishing and gardening. Prior to Virginia’s, he worked with the Sea Island Company, a Forbes 20 Star Resort; Colt & Allison at the Lodge and Charleston Grill.

Breakfast is served Monday-Friday (7 – 11 a.m.) and highlights:
Country Benedict with gridded country ham, English muffin, poached farm eggs and Tabasco hollandaise ($10)
“The Scone” with seasonal jam, sweetened clabber and salted butter ($8)

Brunch is served on Saturday (8 a.m. – 3p.m.), Sunday (10 a.m. – 3 p.m.) and highlights:
Fried Quail Legs served Nashville hot or honey bbq ($12)
Virginia’s House Salad with local lettuces, cucumbers, tomatoes and marinated green beans with a boiled peanut vinaigrette ($9)

Dinner is served from 11 a.m. and highlights:
Chicken & Dumplings with chicken confit, carrots, onions, celery and traditional drop dumplings ($15)
Tomato Pie with gruyere cheese and fine herbs ($9)

Supper is served from 3 p.m. and highlights:
Perloo with bacon, shrimp, rice, tomatoes and bell peppers ($22)
Smoked Pork Chop with curried squash, bourbon and brown butter bbq and crispy shallots ($23)
