Shaw and Boyd to serve as captains in The College All Star Bowl

February 4, 2014

GREENVILLE, SC – February 4, 2014 –  Two record setting Palmetto State quarterbacks will be serving as honorary team captains for The College All Star Bowl being played February 14 at Furman University.

University of South Carolina’s Connor Shaw will be the captain of the “Americans” and Clemson’s Tajh Boyd will captain the “Nationals” team for the game being aired nationwide in more than 60 Million homes on The CBS Sports Network.

“Former NFL quarterback and coaching legend Sam Wyche will be working with the quarterbacks —  sharing secrets of Joe Montana, Boomer Esiason, Drew Bledsoe and other greats to prepare these players for the mental aspects of the NFL Combine beginning the following week,” said David Wyatt, the game’s director.  “They will have the opportunity to work with some of the nation’s best receivers to help them with their routes and timing as well.”

“It will be interesting to see if South Carolina or Clemson have more fans in the stands when these two stand-out QBs take the field for the coin toss,” said Wyche, who is an advisor in the game. “This is the last time that Clemson and South Carolina fans will get to see these two on the same field in the State of South Carolina.”
Wyatt added,

“True to form, Sam Wyche continues to further the game of football by his revolutionary improvements to the post season NFL Showcase in the form of The College All Star Bowl,” Wyatt said.

The College All Star Bowl will feature the “Nationals” led by South Carolina Football Hall of Famer and Clemson’s National Championship Coach Danny Ford along with his assistant coaches including former NFL and collegiate greats Brian Dawkins, Stanford Jennings, Patrick Sapp, Brian Bratton, R.J. Webb and Joe Jacoby.

The “Americans” are led by South Carolina Football Hall of Famer and legendary SC State Coach Willie Jeffries and his assistant coaches including former NFL and collegiate greats Jamon Meredith, Dwayne Harper, Charlie Brown, Marco Coleman, Freddie Brown, Willie Scott, Keith Jennings and more. Players accepting invites will be categorized in a player pool and then drafted by either the Americans or Nationals.

The game also gives the assistant coaches an opportunity, many of whom are looking to be hired for coaching positions in the NFL as well as universities and other leagues.   Three of last year’s coaches are now coaching in the NFL or college ranks.

The College All Star Bowl will feature open practices for fans, autograph sessions, and NFL scouts. Tickets can be purchased at www.thecollegeallstarbowl.com or  www.ticketmaster.com
