August 25, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – Andy Smith, a candidate for City of Columbia’s Councilmember at-large seat in the November 3, 2015 general election, filed his first ethics report with the South Carolina State Ethics Commission on Monday, August 24, 2015. To date, Smith has raised $23,817.50 in contributions in 10 days for his campaign.

A review of all online reports from the state ethics commission reveals Smith’s filings to be the highest fundraising total for a Columbia City Council candidate’s initial filing since 2006, which is as far as online filing records reach. Donations for the campaign came from 84 donors. Smith publicly announced his plans to run for City Council last Wednesday, August 19.

“In the few days that have passed since announcing my campaign goals and plans once in office, I’ve seen an overwhelmingly positive response,” said Smith. “It’s clear from this enthusiasm and from conversations I’ve had with supporters that Columbia is excited about electing a councilman with a bold and inclusive vision for the future of our city.”
