Smith Moore Leatherwood Attorney Rob Moseley Appointed to SMC3 Education Advisory Committee

January 20, 2012

GREENVILLE, SC – January 20, 2012 – Smith Moore Leatherwood attorney Rob Moseley has been appointed to the newly formed Education Advisory Committee of SMC3, a trucking industry group which provides educational events, technology products and services for the freight transportation community. The committee was formally introduced at SMC3’s annual Jump Start conference, held in Atlanta, Ga. from January 16-18.

The Education Advisory Committee will guide content development for SMC3’s educational events, which include The Academy, dedicated to professional development, and two annual conferences: Jump Start and Connections.

“SMC3 will draw from the committee’s industry knowledge to ensure that we continue to provide the most current and relevant supply chain, logistics and transportation topics to our event attendees in support of their educational needs,” said Kevin Shannon, SMC3’s director of industry and education services. “Rob has been an exemplary teacher of our motor carrier contracts classes twice annually and of cargo claims courses at our annual Loss Prevention conference. We are fortunate to have industry leaders such as Rob so involved with our organization.”

Moseley is the head of the Smith Moore Leatherwood’s Transportation Industry Group representing trucking companies and their insurance carriers, with disputes involving commercial transportation accidents, federal and state safety regulations, commercial insurance coverage disputes, freight claims and other disputes involving trucking companies.

I have thoroughly enjoyed working with SMC3 over the years by promoting trucking industry education,” said Moseley, head of Smith Moore Leatherwood’s Transportation Industry Group. “I look forward to further developing the organization’s already laudable educational program.

A graduate of The Citadel and the University of South Carolina School of Law, Moseley has tried over 60 cases to jury verdict in federal and state courts of unlimited jurisdiction. He also serves at national counsel for several insurance companies and regional and national motor carriers, managing active litigation in 20 to 30 states at any given time. Moseley works closely with Smith Moore Leatherwood’s Corporate Group in advising trucking companies on how to proactively assess and address risk both internally and externally, as well as how to plan for growth and development. In representing the transportation industry, much of his practice is devoted to serving insurance companies, specifically the defense of catastrophic automobile accidents and other cases being defended by insurance carriers. He is also active in pursuing and defending insurance coverage disputes and disputes involving owner-operators.

In May, Moseley was honored with the Transportation Lawyers Association’s Distinguished Service Award and in 2007 he received the American Trucking Association’s Safety and Loss Prevention Council Outstanding Contribution Award.  He was also recognized in 2004 by the South Carolina Trucking Association for his efforts in protecting the interests of the Transportation Industry and was the 2001 recipient of the Compleat Lawyer Award given by the University of South Carolina School of Law.
