Smith Named VP at Presbyterian College

CLINTON, SC – December 17, 2012 – Presbyterian College (PC) announcesthat Dr. Joy Smith, associate vice president for student affairs anddean of students at Clemson University, will be joining PC as vicepresident for campus life and dean of students, effective January 18,2013.

This appointment brings considerable experience to the leadershipteam at PC, as Smith has served Clemson as associate vice president forstudent affairs since 1990, with the additional role of dean of studentssince 1996. She has a comprehensive background in all areas of campuslife, including student learning and development, career services,student health services, and multicultural affairs.

Smith’s time in the classroom as instructor in the College of Health,Education and Human Development at Clemson positions her to work closelywith PC’s faculty on whole-student development. She shares that she isdelighted to be joining the campus life staff at PC.
“The students, faculty, and staff I met during the interview were soimpressive. I can’t wait to get to know everyone better as we worktogether for Presbyterian College,” Smith says.

Dr. Claude C. Lilly, President of Presbyterian College, is excitedabout what Smith’s leadership will offer current and future students.

Lilly also expresses his appreciation for the work of Linda Jameison,who has been serving PC as interim dean of students since 2010. Withthe appointment of Smith, Jameison will remain in the campus life staffand move into a new position that will be essential to ensuring studenttransition and success.

“Dr. Smith is a welcome leader for our Campus Life staff, andparticularly for our students,” Jameison says.  “She is an individualcommitted to the whole-person education of college students, and I amthrilled to be working for her and with her as we continue to develop acompelling out-of-classroom experience that supports the academicprogram at PC.”

Smith received her bachelor of science in administrative managementin 1975 and master of education in 1977, both from Clemson University.She received her Ph.D. in higher education administration from theUniversity of South Carolina in Columbia in 1991.

With Smith’s expertise, PC will continue to develop and implementfuture programs and services that will benefit PC students as they learnand grow throughout their college educational experience.
