South Carolina students raise nearly $400,000 to help fight blood cancers

June 13, 2016

This school year, South Carolina students set high goals in joining the Student Series campaign for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). Proving that every penny counts, students from 450 schools across the state gathered their spare change and raised nearly $400,000 to help LLS fight blood cancers. The top three schools in the state were Bell’s Crossing Elementary (Simpsonville) raising $9,790.34, Thomas Sumter Academy (Rembert) raising $6,700.00, and Hanahan Middle School (Hanahan) raising $6,266.00.

The LLS Student Series is a service learning, character education and philanthropy program where students gain the unique experience of helping thousands of children and adults in their fight against blood cancers like leukemia. More than 14.5 million students and 850,000 educators in 28,000 schools across the U.S. participate annually. Since its beginning, students have raised more than $288 million to fund breakthrough therapies and patient services, and more than $27 million in 2014-2015 alone!
