Spartanburg Celebrates Arbor Day
November 28, 2011SPARTANBURG, SC – December 2, 2011 – Incelebration of Arbor Day, the community is invited to join Mayor JunieWhite and USC Upstate’s Arbor Day guest speaker, Dr. Michael Dirr for atree dedication and Arbor Day celebration.
Rain or shine, the event takes place on Friday, December 2, 2011 at9:00 a.m. at the Johnson College of Business and Economics. A ChineseFringe tree will be dedicated and planted on site.
Although nationally observed on the last Friday in April, Arbor Daytraditionally falls on the first Friday of December in South Carolinabecause it’s the best time to locally plant trees. Spartanburg takespride in the fact that this is the 30th year it has beendesignated by the National Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree City.
