Spartanburg Community College offering apprenticeship funding workshop

Spartanburg Community College (SCC) will offer a free workshop to Upstate residents and local companies interested in apprenticeship opportunities thanks to funding from Apprenticeship Carolina, part of the SC Technical College System, and the US Department of Labor.
“We are very fortunate to be able to offer the South Carolina Apprenticeship Initiative(SCAI) grant opportunity to companies in the Spartanburg Community College service area. These funds will allow Apprenticeship Carolina to further expand programs in the areas of manufacturing, information technology and professional services,” stated Carla Whitlock, senior apprenticeship consultant, Division of Economic Development & Workforce Competitiveness.
Apprenticeships are an earn-while-you-learn training model that combines structured on the job training, job related education, and a scalable wage progression.
“Apprenticeship Carolina™ works to ensure all employers in South Carolina have access to the information and technical assistance they need to create demand-driven, registered apprenticeship programs,” explains Robert Leslie, SCC’s dean of corporate and community education. “Apprenticeship consultants are available, at no charge to employers, to guide companies through the registered apprenticeship development process, from initial information to full recognition in the national Registered Apprenticeship System. Registered apprenticeship provides employers with the unique opportunity to grow their own workforce.”
The workshop will be held on Tuesday, June 7 at 9:00 am at SCC’s central campus in Spartanburg.
Apprenticeship Carolina, an integral part of the South Carolina Technical College System, has received funding from the US Department of Labor to pay for educational costs related to apprenticeships in the areas of manufacturing, information technology, and professional services (finance and accounting).

South Carolina is one of the nation’s leaders in apprenticeships. The South Carolina Apprenticeship Grant Initiative informational meeting will be a great place for company representatives to explore how apprenticeships can help their organization train their employees and ensure they have the workforce needed to carry them into the future.
Baby Boomers are retiring by the thousands every day. Registered apprenticeships are another competitive advantage for companies that want a well-qualified workforce when so many knowledgeable workers are leaving the workforce. Grant funding available for this initiative includes $2,500 per qualified apprentice or up to $12,500 per company location.
