Spartanburg County Historical Association to hold Annual Membership Meeting

Join Spartanburg County Historical Association on Sunday, Feb. 21,3-4:30 p.m. for its Annual Membership Meeting. The guest speaker will be Erin Morton of Belk Architecture, the firm responsible for the Drayton Mills Lofts project. Morton’s session will include a holistic approach to understanding the process behind and advantages to rehabilitating a historic mill building, using Drayton Mills as a case study. The meeting will take place in the Callie and John Rainey Conference Room, Carlos Dupre Moseley Building, Chapman Cultural Center and will also feature an update on the state of the organization, induction of new board members, and light refreshments. This event is free and open to the public.
Morton obtained her bachelor’s degrees in bioarchaeology and history from North Carolina State University and received her master’s degree in historic preservation from the Clemson University/College of Charleston graduate program in 2014. Her thesis work features an economic impact study of North Carolina’s mill rehabilitation tax credit. Morton has worked with Parallel Charleston, a downtown developer focused on adaptive reuse of historic structures, and with Ruedrich Restorations out of Durham, NC, restoring the original 1790s house at Elgin Plantation in Warrenton, NC. She currently works with Belk Architecture in Durham as a preservation design and construction administration specialist.
