Statement from Gov. Nikki Haley on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

January 18, 2016

Governor Nikki Haley today released the following statement:

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

Gov. Haley said, “This year, when our state was challenged and our comfort shattered, the strength and grace of our people, the truest measure of our character, inspired the world. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision of an America – and a South Carolina – where we come together and lift each other up, and our sons and daughters have the opportunity to work hard and achieve their dreams – regardless of our race, religion or the circumstances of our birth – continues to motivate us today and every day.”
