CLEMSON, SC — For Michelle Butler, a Clemson University senior majoring in food science, life is about making healthy choices. She has chosen her major and future career as a dietitian to help others learn to make their own healthy choices.

Her student academic achievements and goals have been recognized by the South Carolina Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics with the SCAND 2015 Outstanding Student Award.

“As a child I struggled with weight issues,” said Butler, who is from Lexington. “I understand how people feel who have similar problems and I have learned that education on proper diet and exercise can help turn lives around.”

She’s spent most of her extracurricular time volunteering with the campus ministry, The Navigators. She spent her summers while in college as a camp counselor and in other leadership roles putting her faith into action.

Following graduation in May she plans to complete a dietetic internship and become a registered dietitian and continue to put her compassion to work helping others.

The South Carolina Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is the largest organization of food and nutrition professionals in the South Carolina. SCAND is an affiliate of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
