Summer Isn’t Over Yet . . . so Stay Professional

As the summer heat continues makes it more and more tempting to opt for comfort rather than professionalism, dressing appropriately for the workplace is still important.  Don’t go on vacation until you actually leave the building!

While women may have many more unsuitable summer options than men (ladies, tank tops and flip-flops won’t work), men can be guilty of poor choices also.  Some lightweight fabrics in sport coats, suits, and trousers can be too casual for many business offices.  Un-tucked shirts, jerseys, and loafers may be fine for casual Fridays and the weekend, but not for many regular business days.  The weather might be steamy outside but the air conditioning in your office should keep you comfortable in your normal professional clothing.  It’s always best to err on the side of decorum, so take note of what your seasoned, successful co-workers do as outside temperatures continue to rise.

Remember:

  • When in doubt, don’t.  If you think it may not be right, it probably isn’t right.
  • Be polished!  The impression you make should be professional to clients and co-workers alike.
  • Professional is the byword.
