June 13, 2014

SUMMERVILLE, SC – On Wednesday, June 25 at 10 a.m. Summerville Medical Center (SMC) will break ground on a 40,000 square foot medical office building. The two-story medical office building will be connected to SMC, located at 295 Midland Parkway. This placement provides patients and physicians easy access to an array of nationally recognized services, including robotic surgery, bariatric surgery, SMC’s new CaringSuite MRI, obstetric services, the new maternal fetal telemedicine program and other services.

The $8 million medical office building will house a number of specialty practices. The new addition will incorporate cutting edge technology promoted by the strong support of the physician practices, including electronic medical records, and full system integration with the hospital.

“In recent years, Summerville Medical Center has added a number of specialty services to our hospital. That growth will continue as we build this important addition to our medical campus. This venture gives our patients closer choices and additional convenience when it comes to their healthcare options. The medical office building project will ensure that our national top performing hospital will continue its focus on quality, safety and access to care,” said Lisa Valentine, Summerville Medical Center CEO. According to Terry Cunningham, vice president of operations, the project is currently in the pre-leasing stage, with several medical practices showing strong interest in the project.

The building will be owned by HCA, the parent company of Summerville Medical Center; Lee & Associates is overseeing the structure’s leasing. The construction project is being developed by Barton Malow and is expected to be complete in spring of 2015.
