SYNC ’12 church leadership conference comes to CSU

February 27, 2012

CHARLESTON, SC – February 27, 2012 – Charleston Southern University will host SYNC ’12, the second annual church leadership conference, on Thursday, March 22 and Friday, March 23.

The conference will include topics by church and worship leaders Dave Edwards, Jason Hodges, Butch Howard, Will Browning, Doug Paul and Reggie McNeal. McNeal, a Missional leadership specialist, and Paul (3 Dimension Ministries) will lead a workshop on launching Missional communities, which McNeal defines as “groups of 20-50 on mission together to be the Good News of Jesus in every crack and crevice of society.” “The goal is for people to walk away feeling more equipped in doing Missional Communities in real life,” said McNeal. God has wired you uniquely to serve according to His purpose. FBC Taylors pastor Jason Hodges returns to SYNC with a compelling message on strengths-based leadership based on Tom Rath and Barry Conchie’s book Strengths Based Leadership.

“Discovering your leadership has everything to do with discovering your strengths,” said Hodges. “Ultimately, you will never reach your full leadership potential unless you grow in your ability to recognize and capitalize on your strengths.” Will Browning said, “Over the years we have heard everyone from church growth leaders to seminary presidents tell us that church planting is the single most evangelistic tool under heaven.  Lately, it seems this ideology has gained steam and many more are climbing on the church planting bandwagon.

What fruit has been birthed through this infant movement?  Is this movement a passing fad, or the latest mainstay in Christendom? Browning, pastor of Journey Church in Summerville and NAMB church planter, will answer these pivotal questions in a workshop on church planting in the 21st century.

Howard, the CEO for ADDIE Solutions, will lead a workshop on the “12 Timeless Principles of Leadership” and author/speaker Dave Edwards will challenge church leaders on “cultural engagement” with five questions Millennials are asking of student pastors and their ministries.

“Equipping pastoral leadership for the challenges of the future is a significant undertaking—and a major reason CSU is giving time and attention to providing such a conference as SYNC,” said Dr. Rick Brewer, vice president of Student Affairs at Charleston Southern University. “SYNC ’12 offers uniquely designed sessions for pastors and pastoral staff leaders seeking tools for re-shaping and re-energizing congregational life for Kingdom purposes. I am not aware of any other training opportunity offering the comprehensiveness of SYNC ’12.”

The South Carolina Baptist Convention is sponsoring two workshop luncheons included in the cost of the conference. Register online at www.CharlestonSouthern.edu/sync. For more information, call 843-863-8082.
