Tameka Bell Receives Inaugural Suzan D. Boyd Excellence Award during SC Campaign’s Annual Conference

June 16, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – Tameka Bell—Accounting and Human Resource Specialist for the South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy (SC Campaign)—was honored as the inaugural recipient of the Suzan D. Boyd Excellence Award during the organization’s Summer Institute on June 11. Given in honor of Suzan D. Boyd, the award is the highest and most distinguished staff award given by the organization and acknowledges the extraordinary efforts of the recipient toward fulfilling the mission and goals of the SC Campaign while also exemplifying the characteristics of the award’s namesake.

Tameka, who was nominated by her peers, has significantly impacted the SC Campaign and its work. Specifically, she has provided innovation, collaboration, customer service, and a commitment to excellence in all that she does. Among her peers, she is recognized and known for exhibiting characteristics exemplified by Dr. Boyd – particularly in demonstrating a history of excellence in service and leadership, both internal and external to the organization and consistently demonstrating the ability and willingness to work positively, respectfully, and effectively with others.

In her role, Tameka oversees the day-to-day responsibilities of Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable, processes payroll, handles invoicing and draw-downs of grant funds, invoices registrations, and assists with the audit. All of this she completes with a high quality of customer service and attention to detail. She has navigated recent payroll changes, changes to the federal grant drawdown process, taken on new job responsibilities, and at the same time responds to staff needs with a smile and pleasant attitude.

“Tameka should feel a great sense of pride that her dedication and commitment has been recognized by her peers,” said Gwen Baker, Chief Operating Officer of the SC Campaign. “She is a true team player, but also a leader who doesn’t hesitate to always do what’s right—an important trait for someone in a financial role. I certainly congratulate her on her years of service and as she embraces this title, I encourage her to continue being a strong leader among her peers.”

About Suzan D. Boyd

Suzan D. Boyd joined the SC Campaign in December 2001 as its second Executive Director. Under her leadership, the SC Campaign grew significantly in scope and reach – to over 20 full and part-time staff and a budget that increased 500% in her five-year tenure. The programmatic sophistication of the organization grew considerably as well stimulated by two specific events. First, an intensive advocacy campaign that resulted in state line-item funding through the Department of Social Services, which allowed for programming to expand to all 46 counties of South Carolina. In addition, the organization’s first federal funding was secured through a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
