Tax-Free weekend helps benefit Palmetto Place

Palmetto Place Children’s Shelter hosted a donation drive over the state’s Tax-Free weekend, bringing in enough school supplies to fill backpacks for 20 children.  

“We had so many groups and individuals from across the midlands out there collecting supplies for us last weekend. When we asked the community for support, they responded with such excitement and generosity.” says Grace Bennett, Project Coordinator at the shelter, “It’s nice to know there are people looking out for our kids and want to make sure they have everything they need to be successful this year.”

Groups like Females in Action, or FIA, encouraged their members to collect supplies for the shelter and bring them to their meetings. Bethlehem Baptist Church’s Missionary Circle went above and beyond and in addition to collecting school supplies also collected personal hygiene items and created gift bags with towels, toothbrushes, shampoo’s and more.

Palmetto Place is a home for abused and neglected children and homeless teens from across the state of South Carolina. They provide a safe and nurturing environment where children have access to after-school programs, tutoring, recreational and social activities. They offer a broad range of services that concentrate on personal healing and development including medical attention, mental health care, crisis adjustment and transitional counseling.
